The Hut Access and Opening

As The Barossa Council has construction works in progress across the Tanunda Recreation Park restricting access to our Hut, the Committee Executive has decided that it will not be possible to open The Hut until late February, early March.

Description automatically generated with low confidenceThe Bilyara Road entrance gate was locked on 7 January. A temporary fence (see photo) installed inside the park near Elizabeth Street will be locked at 5 pm daily and on weekends.

The Council has said it will approve a limited number of people to access the digital lock on the Elizabeth Street temporary gate and these people will be responsible to open and close the gate on entering and leaving

Already many of the huge trees surrounding the oval have been removed and a few stumps remain as you can see in the photo below.

Tree removal Tanunda ParkThis extended closure is disappointing for all of us and is also worsened by the current Covid-19 situation and the need to keep ourselves safe.

The Management Committee will meet in mid-late February to reassess the situation with a view to open The Hut at the earliest.

A fund-raising Fashion Show being organised for April may be at risk of postponement or cancellation but ANZAC Day is expected to go ahead.

The Hut is Closed Until February

Even RSL members have to take a break.

Our club has a break between 10 December 21 and 4 February 2022.

But it's not a break for everyone. During the break committee members carry out some maintenance and housekeeping tasks in preparation for the New Year.

If you need to contact us urgently, please do, someone from our Management Committee will be able to assist.

We look forward to seeing you in February and hope you have a merry Christmas and a Happy, COVID-free New Year.

Annual General Meeting Feedback

Our 2021 Christmas Dinner and Annual General Meeting went well. Everyone who attended the dinner seemed to have a great time and some of us who don't often see each other had a good chance to chat as we drank our wine and ate the lovely meals always available at The Clubhouse.

The AGM was well attended and the main highlights were that Lee Martin and Neville Jaeschke didn't stand for re-election. Elliott Nuttall was elected Vice President and we didn't fill Neville's position as we already had an additional member on the committee which usually stands at 10. Both Lee and Neville contributed greatly to our Management Committee and will be missed. Neville served on the Committee for 20 years, which is outstanding by any measure.

President, Trevor Klose thanked Lee and Neville and everyone for their continuing membership and contribution to our sub-branch, to Tich Tyson of Plympton RSL for helping us with the election of Committee members, and to Anthony Pulliati of Carbon Group Barossa for his pro bono review of our financial statements. He also reminded us of the support we receive from our local Ministers of Parliament and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Trevor extends a Merry Christmas and prosperous and safe 2022 to all our members and their families.

PS: Our last two Happy Hours for the year will be on 3rd and 10th December. We'd love to see you there.
